Royal attendance at opening Holland Dance Festival by Nederlands Dans Theater

Her Majesty the Queen, His Royal Highness the Prince of Orange, Her  Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands, His Royal Highness Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands and Her Royal Highness Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands plan to attend the opening performance of the Holland Dance Festival, 50 Years of Challenging Dance by Nederlands Dans Theater. The 12th edition of the Holland Dance Festival will open in the Lucent Danstheater in The Hague on 28 October 2009. This year’s festival will be dedicated entirely to 50 years Nederlands Dans Theater.

Nederlands Dans Theater – 50 years of challenging dance
In
50 Years of Challenging Dance Nederlands Dans Theater I and II will appear on stage at the Lucent Danstheater, both separately and together. With this unique line-up, the programme can only be seen in The Hague before going on a European jubilee tour in 2010. In it, Jiří Kylián will present his last choreography in his capacity as house choreographer, for Nederlands Dans Theater I. Lightfoot León are creating a new ballet for Nederlands Dans Theater II, and Johan Inger has the special task to make new work for both companies together. Nederlands Dans Theater’s jubilee will be celebrated for an entire season, with various activities, unique collaborations (with Phillip Glass for instance), international tours and new world premieres.

The Holland Dance Festival
From 28 October to 15 November 2009 Dance City The Hague will present itself worldwide as the centre of dance during the 12th edition of the Holland Dance Festival, the Netherlands’ largest dance biennale with 70 performances, more than 100 workshops and a dance parade with over 1200 amateur dancers. With this festival, Holland Dance celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the Dutch figurehead of dance: Nederlands Dans Theater. Not only will the festival be an international platform for dance in all its facets, this time it will also be a reunion of ex-dancers and former choreographers from all over the world that have been brought forth by Nederlands Dans Theater in the past fifty years.
