Slow Dancing - every night from 9 p.m.
Through 11 September

After New York, London and Venice, now the exclusive and breathtaking dance video projection Slow Dancing is at last to be seen in The Netherlands – and in fact, in Den Haag, the dance city.

The first screening of Slow Dancing in New York produced a wave of enthusiasm throughout the dance world. Never before had dancers and choreographers been portrayed in such a spectacular way – and never before had the characteristic muscular strength of the dancer's body been depicted so fabulously. In every city where Slow Dancing was screened, audiences have been left agape with awe.

Slow Dancing is comprised of a series of larger-than-life video portraits of dancers and choreographers from all around the world. The portraits were done with a high-speed camera that makes it possible to record movements and play them back in extreme slow-motion. With this technique each captured second can be blown up to as much as a minute. Slow Dancing is a succession of serene moments in which precision of movement, stretched to its utmost, becomes visible: looking at these images that reveal the dancer's supreme concentration produces an almost surreal experience.

On the initiative of Holland Dance three Dutch portraits have also been added: the dance icon Sabine Kupferberg (former dancer with the Nederlands Dans Theater), the young Stijn Hoogendoorn (sometimes called the Dutch Billy Elliot), and the super-talent Besim Hoti (nominated for the ‘Zwaan’, the VSCD-dance award, in 2009).

Slow Dancing is a project by David Michalek. Holland Dance commissioned the Dutch portraits.
