Jim Vincent receives a warm welcome
Jim Vincent is an honorary guest at the anniversary on two counts. Not only is he presenting his work Slipstream, but he is also being welcomed to the Netherlands as the new artistic director of Nederlands Dans Theater - even though it feels like a homecoming to him.
Vincent started out as a dancer with Nederlands Dans Theater in the eighties and worked with the company as a dancer and choreographer for over twelve years. In 2000, after several respectable jobs in the art world, he became artistic director of Hubbard Street Dance Company, the leading dance company of Chicago, where he brought about considerable changes. Vincent expanded the company's idiom with modern influences and, as a great fan of live music, he initiated cooperative ventures with various ensembles and musicians. With Nederland Dans Theater, too, he wants to focus on collaborating with other arts disciplines, such as architecture, for instance.
Besides his own work, Vincent has selected three other pieces especially for the anniversary, also by ex-NDT choreographers: Gnawa by Nacho Duato, Off Screen by Alejandro Cerrudo and a world premiere by Jorma Elo. The dancers of Hubbard Street Dance Company will perform the pieces with freshness, athleticism and stylish theatricality.
