Obstacles and pile-ups in Monsterz
The latest creation by choreographer André Gingras is about monsters. The starting point for his journey was formed by the legends of Bigfoot, jinns and the yeti, and myths such as zombies and giant sewer snakes. Together with MEEKERS, he turns the world completely upside down in a rollercoaster of movement, using the street trend 'parkour', which has now been discovered by the dance world. This way of moving, which is also called 'freerunning', is characterised by enormous jumps, dives and other acrobatic actions. It's no coincidence that the location for this physical performance is a sports centre.
Monsterz is Gingras' first collaboration with the youth dance company de MEEKERS, led by dance artist Arthur Rosenfeld. This renowned choreographer has previously created many productions for Korzo, the CaDance Festival, Springdance and Scapino Ballet. For Nederlands Dans Theater, he choreographed two works: Mean Free Path in 2004 and Excessive Second Body in 2005. Gingras' movement idiom is characterised by explosive dance coupled with humour and absurdity. This is also the case in Monsterz, which is dominated by obstacles, pile-ups and impossible spaces.
Monsterz is suitable for audiences aged 12 and up.
