See, Do & Experience!
At the 2009 Holland Dance Festival, Don't Hit Mama is presenting a mix of dance acts, exciting encounters and theatrical elements. The production takes inspiration from the funky club dance culture in the United States and puts it into a festive Dutch context. Theatre maker Nita Liem from Don't Hit Mama is realising this Club Event with a group of individual dancers from the hiphop and club dance scenes, accompanied by local dance talent from The Hague. Don't Hit Mama takes its inspiration from club dance, and from America and Africa. Forms of social dance from these parts of the world are the basis of all today's urban dance styles.
Especially for the 50th anniversary of Nederlands Dans Theater, Don't Hit Mama is involving a dancer associated with NDT in the club. Short films from the online contest Improve your move! form part of the scenery. Especially for the occasion, Theater De Regentes will be set up as a funky club, where dancers and audiences meet one another.
