POSTPONED TO FEBRUARI 12, 13, 14 AND 15 2008
An initiative of Michael Schumacher, Sabine Kupferberg, Jirí Kylián and the Holland Dance Festival
Last Touch First
It all started with a very simple idea. Michael Schumacher and Sabine Kupferberg were to make a duet based on improvisation systems used by the former in a piece for the Nederlands Dans Theater III. However, this idea grew into a project of a respectable size. Schumacher made a new piece Last Touch First. In this work he and Sabine Kupferberg perform with Cora Bos-Kroese, Paula Sanchez (due to injuries replaced by Elke Schepers), David Krugel and Václav Kuneš; all formerly of the Nederlands Dans Theater. The versatile dance-artist Michael Schumacher is a master of improvisation. He was a dancer with the Frankfurt Ballett, Twyla Tharp Dance, the Feld Ballet and the Pretty Ugly Dance Company. He made guest appearances for Peter Sellars and in productions with artists such as Dana Caspersen, Anouk van Dijk and Sylvie Guillem. He also performs with the Magpie Music Dance Company, a capitol-based collective of improvisation artists, and gives workshops in movement analysis and improvisation techniques. With programs such as Celebrating Kylián by the Nederlands Dans Theater II, which opened the tenth edition of the Holland Festival, Jiøí Kylián celebrated his thirty-year association with the Nederlands Dans Theater that, thanks to him, has become one of the best contemporary dance companies in the world. As resident choreographer and artistic adviser, Kylián is still closely associated with the Nederlands Dans Theater, which supports Last Touch First.
