Nacho Duato & Compañia Nacional de Danza
Jiří Kylián brought Nacho Duato to the Nederlands Dans Theater in 1980 where he achieved fame, first as a leading dancer of the company (and favorite with the audience), and later as resident choreographer. In 1990, he became the artistic director of the Compañía Nacional de Danza, established in Madrid, which grew into a veritable super group under his leadership. The last appearance in The Hague by Duato and his Compañía was at the sixth edition of the Holland Dance Festival in 1998. The production Alas (Wings) also offer the festival audience the chance to see the wonderful and charismatic Duato again in all his glory, as choreographer and dancer; a fitting start to the Holland Dance Festival 2007.
World premieres in the first week of the Holland Dance Festival
In the first week of the Holland Dance Festival will see three remarkable world premieres. The trademark of André Gingras is the combination of energetic, almost explosive dance, topical subjects, humor and absurdity. In his new choreography for the Holland Dance Festival, The Autopsy Project, he presents an image of the seduction and danger of knowlegde and technology. Choreographer Regina van Berkel created her first Holland Dance Festival production, triple-zone, together with renowned musicians David Kweksilber en Wim Vos (Anamadutchi). A performance in which music, dance, and image meet and challenge each other. Festival director Samuel Wuersten brought the Cathy Sharp Dance Ensemble from Switzerland in contact with four choreographers and the distinctive musical duo Stimmhorn, specialized in yodeling and alpine horn variations. The result is dance that is not only performd physically, but in an original mix of passion, humor, and irony, also visually set to music.
