The Ailey School & Rotterdamse Dansacademie
New York - Rotterdam
The presentation of so-called education programs at the Holland Dance Festival has a long tradition, thanks in part to a great public interest. The 2007 edition of the Holland Dance Festival presents up-and-coming talent from two leading institutes from New York and Rotterdam together on stage: The Ailey School and the Rotterdam Dance Academy. The two schools are similar in that their excellently trained dancers travel all over the world and find their way to a great variety of modern dance companies.
The Ailey School was established in 1969 by the famous choreographer Alvin Ailey. Together with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Ailey II Dance Companies, the school is housed in The Joan Weill Center for Dance in Manhattan. The Rotterdam Dance Academy, one of the leading academies for contemporary dance, was established in 1931 by dancer, choreographer and teacher Corrie Hartog. In the second half of the 2006-‘07 season, the academy celebrated its 75th anniversary. The performance during the Holland Dance Festival offers the young dancers of The Ailey School and Rotterdam Dance Academy the chance to gain experience in performing at a large venue. At the same time, the audience gets the opportunity to make acquaintance with up-and-coming talent, and let themselves be enchanted by their openness, enthusiasm and passion.
Tuesday November 13 and Wednesday November 14, 20:30 hrs.
