André Gingras/Korzo producties
The Autopsy Project
André Gingras was born in Canada, where he studied English literature and modern dance, later continuing his dance training in New York. It was the solo CYP17, which was commissioned by the CaDance festival 2000 that signalled his breakthrough in the Netherlands. Since then, Gingras has generated an impressive list of full-length performances, produced by Korzo Productions and in co-production with others, and a number of choreographies for well-known companies, such as the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, the Nederlands Dans Theater and the Rambert Dance Company (London). André Gingras deals with important, present day social issues through his performances. In his consistently thought provoking creations, he manages to combine energetic, almost explosive dance with humour, often of a black variety, and tragicomic absurdity. In Gingras’ latest work, he examines the concept of autopsy. In this piece, Gingras ingeniously weaves two subjects together: the history of the Manhattan Project (the group of scientists brought together to develop the first atomic bomb) and the anatomic studies of Leonardo da Vinci. In this performance, Gingras shows how seductive pure knowledge and technology can be. Knowledge, like power, is a game played with fire. André Gingras was one of five choreographers who participated in the program FutureWatch at the Holland Dance Festival 2005.
