Norton/Sharp/Shropshire
It’s not often that the two traditionally separated worlds of professional dancers and amateurs come into contact with each other, except at the Holland Dance Festival! For this item on the program, dance professionals and the best amateur dancers of the Netherlands are challenged to work together. For this year, three choreographers with very different backgrounds have been invited: Cathy Sharp (Swtzerland), Stephen Shropshire (USA/ Netherlands) en Paul Selwyn Norton (Great Britain/Netherlands). The festival has paired them up with e-motion from Wageningen (artistic director Carsten ‘Lumiere’ Sasse), Stichting Dansz from Goes (artistic director Lia Sorber) and a group that consists of dancers selected from auditions. These dance combinations literally cross borders. All three choreographers find it a challenge to participate: Cathy Sharp, ‘I find it is challenging and inspiring to participate in this dialogue with these young dancers.’ Stephen Shropshire,’ To create a work with dancers motivated singularly by the desire to dance is a luxury and honor I simply could not refuse.’ Paul Selwyn Norton: ‘I look forward to the challenges and discoveries I will encounter.’ Aside from the new choreographies, e-motion, Stichting Dansz and the group Dansnest from Oosterhout (artistic director Nana van Moergestel) will each dance a piece from their own repertoire.
